In Bratislava, Urbecon's Phil Asquith helped to prepare public agencies for new tasks in managing regional development and
providing support to a growing private sector.

Bosnia i Herzegovina
In Bosnia i Herzegovina, Urbecon worked with the European Union's Quick Impact Facility to produce an economic development
strategy for the City of Mostar and the surrounding region - and subsequently, to work on an implantation plan.
Much of Mostar had been destroyed during the war of 1992-5 and the local economy was almost completely wrecked. There
are still ethnic divisions and the state has still to complete the transition from a centrally directed economy to a free
enterprise society. Subsequently, Urbecon's Peter Gresham helped to establish a new business incubator scheme.

Lithuania
Vilnius, the ancient capital of Lithuania is one of eastern Europe's hidden
gems, replete with baroque architecture, some excellent bars and restaurants and some splendid views.
Urbecon's Gavin
Jones spent most of 2003 there, running an EU project to assist in SME development. Peter Gresham has worked with our Lithuanian
colleagues Groupe EKT and Vilnius was the base for the Baltic Consultants Club (BCC) formed in 2004.

Argentina
The 'El Sur' area of Buenos Aires is home to about 800,000 people, nearly a quarter of whom live in shanty towns and work
in the informal economy - or not at all.
El Sur has a rich cultural tradition, but severe problems of urban decline and deprivation.
An Urbecon team carried out a scoping study for the development of a new strategy for the area, working with the City
authorities and the Corporacion Buenos Aires Sur.
